"A fire shall always be burning on the altar; it shall never go out."
God instructed Israel's priests to keep the altar fire continually burning. Maintaining it required attention, fresh fuel, and the faithful removal of ashes. The flame was not to be treated casually or allowed to disappear through neglect.
In a similar way, spiritual passion must be guarded. A powerful encounter with God may ignite us, but daily devotion helps sustain the flame. Prayer, Scripture, worship, obedience, fellowship, and service provide an ongoing rhythm through which our love for God remains active and strong.
The ashes of yesterday cannot sustain today's fire. Past experiences should encourage us, but they cannot replace a present relationship with God. We may honor what He did before while still seeking fresh grace, wisdom, and strength for the responsibilities of today.
Carrying the fire means taking holy passion into ordinary life. It is loving your family patiently, serving faithfully when no one applauds, resisting compromise, praying for others, sharing the gospel, and bringing hope into difficult places. The fire is carried through consistent character as well as public ministry.
God's fire must be carried with humility, wisdom, and love. Spiritual passion without maturity can wound people and produce unnecessary confusion. Holy fire purifies the vessel, illuminates truth, warms cold hearts, and directs attention toward Jesus. It never makes human pride the center of God's work.
You are not called merely to admire revival from a distance or remember what God did through someone else. You are called to keep your own altar burning. Tend the flame through daily surrender, remove the ashes of yesterday, and carry the light of Christ into the darkness until He returns.
Reflection
What am I doing consistently to keep my love for God and commitment to His purposes burning?
Application
Create a sustainable daily rhythm of prayer, Scripture, and worship. Ask someone you trust to encourage you in maintaining it.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, keep Your fire burning within me. Remove the ashes of yesterday and renew my devotion today. Help me carry Your presence with purity, humility, wisdom, and love. Use my life to awaken others and glorify Jesus until He returns. In His name, Amen.
